New recreation and community centre for the Shire of Boddington in partnership with Lycopodium Infrastructure. The centre will be the first dedicated indoor recreation facility in the district and include an open plan 1570m2 sports hall accommodating two full sized basketball courts. The centre also includes a 290m2 function room complete with kitchen space.
The structure was designed entirely with steel framed construction to minimise build time and cost. The gymnasium consists of hollow section steel trusses spanning 30.5m and arched to give the roof its distinct shape. Steel stud frame was specially designed and checked for the height of the gymnasium walls and used throughout the project. Discussions with builder Moore Constructions highlighted opportunities for cost and time saving by fabricating larger sections off site as transportation was not limited for this project.
